The Way to Bryn Celli Ddu
Insects & fauna flourish in the diverse hedgerow of hawthorne & malus that grow beside the well trodden trail. The song of the thrush & loud call of the small mighty wren echoes.
This is the path of the druids and of our ancestors.
After a time a sharp left leads over the magical waters of the Braint. The river, it flows across Anglesey, her source starts near Pentraeth and she connects to the sea at Dwyran where the Irish Sea & the Menai Strait meet as one.
The way follows the shade of the leafy oaks. The high hawthorne hedges are now either side, the green leafed thorned branches lead you up a long straight incline, it appears there is nowhere to go, just lush thickette and foliage. You reach the paths end, a hidden right turn reveals a landscape where the sky opens, a raven calls, the chamber of Bryn Celli Ddu stands - The Dark Grove. A passage tomb from our ancestors. It's a place where its roots grow deep and connects us to the land.
The ancient monument was built at a time even before the great pyramids of Giza. On the Solstice Dawn the sunrays lights its tomb. Not far from the grounds of Plas Newydd and the shores of the Menai Strait.
