The Walk to Dorothea

We headed out early, the golden morning light shining on the tips of the snowcapped frosty peaks of Eryri. Dorothea Quarry was about a 45 minute drive away. The land here is colder than the lower-lying region of Anglesey. The paths were still icy, and slippery.

It was a place I had yet to explore. A friend in my village suggested it, a special place for him and his family not far from the small mining village of Tal Y Sarn.

The Quarry was made from a time when the gold miners returned from the far west to mine the hard deep depths of Welsh slate rock. We walked to its edge, a sight to behold. A lake filled by nature's rainfall held captive from the workings of man. The sun's rays glistened, reflecting on the smooth surface revealing a mirrored highlighted pale blue sky. The waters are still amongst its rugged landscape. Protected by the higher peaks of the mountains and the sweeping line of the Nantlle Ridge.
